Dua For Leaving Masjid

A Dua to Recite when Leaving the Mosque

Dua, or supplication, is an important aspect of a Muslim’s faith. It is a means of communicating with Allah and seeking His guidance, mercy, and forgiveness. The act of making dua is deeply rooted in the teachings of Islam and is considered to be an essential part of worship. In fact, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Dua is the essence of worship” (Tirmidhi).

When it comes to leaving the masjid, there is a specific dua that has been taught to us by the Prophet (peace be upon him). This dua holds great significance and it is important for a Muslim to be mindful of it when leaving the masjid.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “When any one of you leaves the mosque, he should say, ‘Allahumma inni as’aluka min fadlika, Allahumma a’inni ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni ibadatika’ (O Allah, I ask You for Your bounty. O Allah, help me to remember You, thank You, and worship You perfectly).” (Abu Dawood)

Let’s break down this dua:

Transliteration:
Bismil-lah wassalatu wassalamu AAala rasoolil-lah, allahumma innee as-aluka min fadlik, allahumma iAAsimnee minash-shaytanir-rajeem.
Translation:
“In the name of Allah, and prayers and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask You from Your favour. O Allah, guard me from the accursed devil.”

This dua is a beautiful way to end one’s worship at the mosque. It is a humble request for Allah’s blessings and assistance in staying mindful of His remembrance, gratitude, and worship. By making this dua, a Muslim is seeking Allah’s help in maintaining a strong connection with Him and continuing to serve Him in the best manner.

In addition to the spiritual significance of this dua, there is also a practical aspect to it. By reciting this dua when leaving the masjid, a Muslim is reminded of the importance of gratitude and worship in their daily lives. It serves as a reminder to carry the spirit of worship and remembrance of Allah beyond the walls of the mosque and into the world.

Furthermore, it is important to note that sincerity and intention play a crucial role in the acceptance of dua. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “The dua of any one of you will be answered so long as he does not seek to hasten it, saying, ‘I have prayed, but I have not had a response.’ ” (Bukhari and Muslim) This highlights the importance of having patience and trust in Allah’s timing and wisdom. It also emphasizes the need to make dua with a sincere and devoted heart.

One way to strengthen the sincerity of one’s dua is by engaging in acts of charity. Giving charity with a sincere intention is a means of seeking the pleasure of Allah and purifying one’s wealth. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Charity does not decrease wealth, no one forgives another except that Allah increases his honor, and no one humbles himself for the sake of Allah except that Allah raises his status” (Muslim).

By giving charity with a pure and selfless intention, a Muslim can build a stronger connection with Allah and seek His favor in all aspects of life, including the acceptance of dua. The act of charity demonstrates a willingness to help others and a recognition of the blessings that Allah has bestowed upon us. It also reflects a genuine desire to please Allah and seek His mercy and guidance.

The dua for leaving the masjid is a beautiful expression of gratitude, remembrance, and devotion to Allah. It serves as a reminder to maintain a strong connection with Allah beyond the confines of the mosque and to seek His assistance in all aspects of life. By reciting this dua with sincerity and intention, and by engaging in acts of charity, a Muslim can strengthen their relationship with Allah and seek His blessings and guidance in all their endeavors.
