Dua for Laylatul Qadr

Dua for Laylatul Qadr:

Dua (supplication) holds a special place in Islam as it is an act of worship and a means of seeking forgiveness, guidance, and blessings from Allah. The significance of dua is further heightened during the last ten nights of Ramadan, particularly on Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Decree. This is a night that is better than a thousand months, and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized the importance of seeking out this night and making dua with sincere intention.

The act of making dua is a way for a person to express their deepest desires and needs to Allah. It is a form of communication between the servant and the Creator, and it is a way to seek help and guidance in times of difficulty and need. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Dua is worship” (Tirmidhi) and, “Nothing will change the divine decree except dua” (Tirmidhi). Thus, dua is an essential aspect of a Muslim’s life and faith, and it is a means of seeking Allah’s mercy and forgiveness.

Laylatul Qadr, also known as the Night of Power, is a night that is filled with blessings and mercy. It is a night in which the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and it is a time when the angels descend to earth. The significance of Laylatul Qadr is highlighted in the Quran, where Allah says, “The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months” (Quran 97:3). Therefore, it is a night that holds great blessings and opportunities for those who seek them.

One of the key acts of worship that is encouraged on Laylatul Qadr is making dua. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever stands (in prayer) in Laylatul Qadr out of faith and expectation (of reward), will have all of his previous sins forgiven” (Bukhari and Muslim). Therefore, it is important for a Muslim to strive to seek out Laylatul Qadr and to engage in acts of worship, including making sincere dua.

Arabic:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ كَرِيمٌ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
Transliteration:
Allahumma innaka Afuwwun [Karimun ] tuhibbul `afwa fa`fu `annee
Translation:
“O Allah, indeed You are Pardoning, [Generous,] You love pardon, so pardon me.”

This dua encapsulates the essence of seeking Allah’s mercy and forgiveness on Laylatul Qadr. By reciting this dua with sincerity and humility, a person can seek Allah’s forgiveness for their past sins and shortcomings, and they can hope for blessings and mercy from Allah.

Additionally, it is important to note that giving charity with a sincere intention can also help in granting one’s dua. The act of charity is highly encouraged in Islam, and it is a way to purify one’s wealth and gain Allah’s blessings. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Charity does not in any way decrease the wealth and the servant who forgives, Allah adds to his respect; and the one who shows humility, Allah elevates him in the estimation of the people” (Muslim). Therefore, by giving charity with a sincere intention, a person can hope to gain Allah’s pleasure and have their dua answered.

Laylatul Qadr is a special night that holds great significance in Islam, and it is a time when a person can seek Allah’s mercy and blessings through acts of worship, including making sincere dua. By reciting the recommended dua with sincerity and humility, and by giving charity with a pure intention, a person can hope to gain the blessings and rewards of this auspicious night. May Allah grant us the ability to make the most of Laylatul Qadr and to seek His mercy and forgiveness through our supplications. Ameen.
